Security Code Sharing Strictly Prohibited in MLS Listings

Compliance concept with icons, virtual screen, businessman touching button

According to the realMLS Data Integrity Policy, publishing a lockbox, alarm, or other security code (including public and private remarks) in a listing is considered a Major Violation, subject to a fine. You can find the full fine schedule and violation examples in the Penalties & Violations section (Appendix A) of the realMLS Policy Manual.

If your listing requires a security code for access, you have two compliant options:

  • Share the code securely through ShowingTime; or
  • Request that agents contact you directly for the code.

Following these guidelines helps ensure safety, maintain data integrity, and keep everyone in compliance with realMLS policies.
